This cell was heated to the vapor point of strontium and used to tune a laser.

Here you can see the chunk of strontium in the cell. The laser passed in the cell and a portion of the light would be absorbed as the strontium atoms were ionized.

A Laser Lock System using Multiple Overlapping Beams
Built August 2010
We built a system where strontium vapor could be trapped and ionized with lasers, and a system to tune those lasers to the needed frequencies. This is done by overlapping beams to optically pump the atoms into the necessary states. This was presented at a conference of the American Physical Society.
