I never expected that such a short time could be so life altering in such a good way.

I lost my job early December 2017. I was working as an electro-mechanical engineer at Ktech Engineering, a small company. When I they lost their big contract, I was out of the job. It was understandable, I was the newest employee after all. But as I reflected on my work experience and my schooling I realized that I was largely a theoretical physicist and did not have a strong set of applicable skills. I pondered on what to do, and as was referenced in my other blog post I decided to go into code.

This was a difficult choice for me to make. I would need to leave behind my wife and five children to go back to school. We were not at Ktech long enough to get unemployment, and money was very tight. But we went forward and boy am I grateful.

I started by doing basecamp, which I flew through. It was a set of videos and exercises to teach the basics of javascript. I even was able to start earlier which I thought was great. But when I came they had overstuffed the cohort. It was hard to get help at times. But, I must say the immersive experience was amazing. The teachers were fantastic. The mentors were very helpful. I could not recommend it enough. By the end I felt that I had applicable skills to apply to my background.

Best of all I got a solid network of friends that helped me get a job only 2 weeks after my graduation. I am excited to begin. I still realize I have a wealth of info to learn, but I am happy and excited.
